SailTime Croatia Flotilla - Day 6
Day 6 - Thursday 28th May
Komiza, Vis - Rogoznica (Marina Frappa)
Following last night’s nocturnal activities, we were up surprisingly early at 8. We had a long sail ahead of us today - around 30 miles - largely into the wind. A swift boat-briefing followed and we managed to get a couple of weather forecasts - both giving different information. With the storm not long passed, we set off, but with a watching eye on the weather. Because of this uncertainty, I once again joined Catalina, just in case they needed some help.
When we exited the harbour the wind was F3-4, so we all got our sails up and started heading north. Lola was at the back of the pack - I’m sure John and Lola were determined to catch us - so we adopted our racing tactics for the day - trouble is, when you have a rookie crew and an un-tuned boat it’s a little hard keeping in front - especially when we put in a couple of involuntary tacks to confuse the opposition. We held our own - although after a couple of hours, Lola might just have got her nose in front - but then the wind dropped and Sam radioed to let us know they were putting their engine on - was that a retirement from the race?
We were still about 3 hours away from Rozganica, so it probably was the right call - so we motor-sailed on. A couple of hours in and David on Bagpuss callled - he’d caught a radio report on the weather - which indicated another storm heading our way - so we pressed on, again with a watching eye - and the fleet arrived in Marina Frappa in Rogoznica at around 6pm.
Marina Frappa is one of the largest marina’s in the Adriatic and had recently won best marina in the Mediterranean - and if some of the large power boats and super yachts parked there were anything to go by - it was home to some of the area’s wealthier clientele. The place was enormous - especially when compared with all the other small marinas we had been visiting all week.
After our late night experience, everyone was pretty shattered, John went straight to bed - still not feeling too bright, but the rest of us wandered down to the local pizza restaurant - to the delight of Joseph, Sam, Chloe and Catherine - and it was a quick margherita, local vino and early to bed for a deep deep sleep.
